When people think of Venice they forget that the whole surrounding area of Verona (the city of Juliet and Romeo), Padova, Vicenza and, a little further away, Trieste (the city of James Joyce) is gorgeous and worth visiting by itself.

2) Puglia and Basilicata.

Two regions far away from ordinary tourism routes but with extraordinary art and history treasures.
